Material identity

There are projects whose beauty and importance go beyond the final image. The start-up Vortex Bladeless has developed an aerogenerator without blades that could be a breakthrough in wind power generation in the future, whose applications could be scalable and accessible both to individual users to whole communities. And they contacted HDFaber to test their prototypes in their own close wind tunnel. The challenge could not be more exciting.

Designing a purely technological space where the precision of every piece means success or mistake in research is not easy. Trial and error are inevitable. It was necessary to prototype and check the design of the elements in HDFaber´s workshop. In addition this design also allowed the tunnel to be dismantled in a very near future.

HDFaber worked hand in hand with Vortex to create a prefabricated wind tunnel that was built in just 2 weeks. It is equipped with all the aerodynamic elements needed to achieve a laminar flow of wind and will help them to investigate on vortex induced vibration (VIV) and the phenomenon of aeroelastic resonance.
